Dog star in Shakespeare at Severndroog Castle
After a fun round of auditions last month, The Changeling Theatre has selected ‘Finn’ to play the part of Crab in the open-air performance of William Shakespeare’s The Two Gentleman of Verona at Severndroog Castle. The dogs came from various locations around Kent to audition for William Shakespeare’s famous production, known to many as the one with the dog.
Production Manager for The Changeling Theatre, Gary Telfer, said: “We were delighted to have nearly 12 dogs to choose from. All of them that came along were fantastic and some were already pros to the stage”. “Finn, with the red bandana, is a professional and has performed in many professional productions and TV shows up and down the country’.
Actor Peter Dukes who plays Launce the owner of Crab in the play said: “I had great fun meeting Finn, I took him for a walk to see if he would be comfortable with me. I just hope there will be no poopies! I know the audience are going to love him”.
Dr Laura Allan, Heritage Manager at Severndroog Castle said: “We love dogs at Severndroog and most of our visitors our dedicated dog walkers who will love to see his performance. We’re ready to deal with any poopies”.
